Ryerson Democracy Forum with Kathleen Wynne and Christy Clark

Two former female premiers — Ontario’s Kathleen Wynne and B.C.’s Christy Clark — talk about their time in power: How they won it, how they wielded it, what they went up against. Find out how they changed history for the future — and what still cries out for change.

Bring your questions to the seventh Ryerson Democracy Forum hosted by Toronto Star columnist and visiting practitioner Martin Regg Cohn with the Faculty of Arts.

About the speakers:

Kathleen Wynne was Ontario’s 25th premier from 2013 to 2018, making history as the first woman and openly LGBTQ+ politician in that role. She was also minister of education, housing, transportation, agriculture and Indigenous affairs. First elected in 2003, she still serves as MPP for Don Valley West.

Christy Clark was British Columbia’s 35th premier from 2011 to 2017, the only female premier to win two consecutive elections. She was previously deputy premier and minister of education, and children and family development. She was the first politician to give birth while serving in cabinet.

Martin Regg Cohn is a political columnist for the Toronto Star. A foreign correspondent for 11 years, he was also Foreign Editor, a world affairs columnist, and covered national politics from Ottawa. He is a Visiting Practitioner at Ryerson University, and a Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
