In this event, Eda Gemi from University of New York Tirana and Anna Triandafyllidou from Ryerson University, Canada will present their recently published book, Rethinking Migration and Return in Southeastern Europe. The book provides an important new analytical framework for making sense of return, remigration and circular mobility, conceptualising them as different phases of a wider migration process. Using an in-depth case study of Albania and its two main destination countries, Italy and Greece, the book demonstrates that instead of being viewed as a linear path between origin and destination, migration should be seen as a segmented, or cyclical pattern that may involve several localities and more than two countries. This is an OPEN ACCESS (external link)  book, thanks to the generous support of the CERC in Migration and Integration.

Eda Gemi is an Associate Professor at the University of New York Tirana.

Anna Triandafyllidou holds the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Immigrant and Refugee Studies.

The talk is organized by the Project on Trajectories of reintegration: The impacts of forced displacement, migration and return on social change (external link)  (2019-2022), funded by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
