Generous Futures: Ending Gender-Based Violence

Farrah Safia Khan has spent two decades working to address gender justice through education, policy, art creation and advocacy. As the Manager of Consent Comes First (CCF) at Toronto Metropolitan University, she works with her team to provide confidential healing-centred support to campus community members affected by sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence. In addition to providing support to survivors, Consent Comes First collaborates with campus partners and the broader community to provide education, programming and advocacy to foster a campus free from gender-based violence. Farrah is also the Founder and Executive Director of Possibility Seeds, where she is currently leading Courage to Act (external link) , the first national project of its kind to address and prevent gender-based violence on post-secondary campuses in Canada. She regularly provides high-level expertise on gender equality policy matters, including but not limited to the Government of Canada's Advisory Council on the Strategy to Prevent and Address Gender-based Violence, the Community Advisory Committee for the Ontario Human Rights and as former co-chair of the Ontario Government Provincial Roundtable Violence Against Women. Farrah is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Toronto Community Foundation’s Vital People Award.

Jo-Anne Ryan is Vice President, Philanthropy at TD Wealth. She develops strategies to help clients incorporate philanthropy in their overall financial and estate plans. She has also led TD’s research efforts around Women and Philanthropy since 2014. She is the architect and Executive Director of the Private Giving Foundation, the first donor advised fund to be launched by a financial institution in Canada. Jo-Anne is a member of CAGP’s government relations committee. She is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto and an active volunteer on several gift planning committees for charities. She is also the Vice Chair of the Board for Bishops University Foundation and is a member of the advisory board at Carleton University for its Masters in Philanthropy and Non-profit Leadership program — the only one of its kind in Canada.

Paulette Senior is President & CEO of the Canadian Women’s Foundation. She has devoted her career to empowering women and girls to overcome barriers and reach their full potential. 

Paulette started her career on the front lines of social service organizations in some of Toronto’s most underserved neighbourhoods. She saw how social resources and systemic change could transform women’s lives. Through her work and advocacy with shelters, as well as employment and housing programs, she has earned numerous awards and become one of the most respected women leaders in Canada. In 2021, she received an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Lethbridge. She is featured in the book Inspiring Canadians: 40 Brilliant Canadians and Their Visions for the Nation (Douglas & McIntyre), scheduled for release in March 2022.

Paulette joined the Foundation in 2016, after 10 years as CEO of YWCA Canada. Her work with the Foundation is guided by the vision of an inclusive, national movement toward gender equity that will strengthen all Canadians.

Jessica Ketwaroo-Green is an intersectional equity consultant who works with organizations to address systemic injustices facing Black and racialized women. Over the last two years she has worked with businesses and non-profit organizations who want to deepen their understanding of anti-oppression and turn their learning into action. In addition to this work, Jessica works in the non-profit sector conducting research and public policy analysis; on a mission to advance feminist policy and practice in Canada. Jessica holds a Bachelor of  Arts in Politics and Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University and a post-graduate certificate from York University in Public Policy Analysis.
