A dedicated academic leader with experience in curriculum development, Stéphanie joined Toronto Metropolitan University in 2007, and most recently completed a decade-long term as program director of Arts and Contemporary Studies, Faculty of Arts.
Throughout her time at Toronto Metropolitan, Stéphanie has been a champion of innovation, inclusivity and collaboration. During her tenure as director, she oversaw the successful completion of the Arts and Contemporary Studies periodic program review, leading to several significant curriculum modifications, such as the implementation of an interdisciplinary anthropology studies option. She was also instrumental in the development of the Languages and Intercultural Relations program.
Stéphanie’s extensive experience in curriculum development, delivery and quality assessment led to her appointment to the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance’s Appraisal Committee. In this position, she played a key role in reviewing programs from all disciplines and proposals from universities across Ontario, providing her with a critical overview of curriculum standards from a provincial-wide perspective.
Stéphanie is associate professor in the department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, which has informed her approach to curriculum quality assurance and pedagogy. In 2018, her commitment to teaching excellence and innovation was recognized with her receipt of the Faculty of Arts Slobodan Drakulic Cross-Disciplinary Teaching Award. Prior to her most recent appointment, Stéphanie was chair of the Liberal Studies Committee, member of the Academic Standards Committee, and chair of the Arts Scholars Circle.
Stéphanie holds a doctorate degree, a Masters of French Studies and a Collaborative Masters of Semiotics from the University of Toronto.
Paola Borin is a Curriculum Specialist at Toronto Metropolitan University with a background in Curriculum Design, and Teacher Education from Stanford University, and a PhD in Higher Education Policy and Educational Leadership, from Brock University. She works to develop strategies to enhance curriculum across the university and to assess the results with departments and schools on matters related to curriculum development and assessment. For twelve years, Paola has taught courses for faculty members and graduate students on Teaching in Higher education, Course Design, and Assessment, and eight years teaching at other levels. She currently conducts research assessing the impact of policies, curriculum and instruction in higher education.

Michelle Brownstein Horowitz is a Curriculum Specialist at Toronto Metropolitan University with a background in curriculum design and experiential learning, and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction focused on Multicultural Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to her current role, Michelle has worked for over fourteen years in higher education and curriculum development. In her current role, she is dedicated to supporting inclusive, evidence-driven curricula.

Julia Gingerich has worked in postsecondary education for over ten years as an instructor, researcher, and curriculum design consultant, and joined the Curriculum Quality Assurance team in the Office of the Vice-Provost, Academic in 2019. She received her doctorate from the Department of English at Queen’s University in 2017. Prior to moving into her current position, she was a Curriculum and Program Review Consultant at Sheridan College, providing guidance, resources, and support to both program review and new program development teams. In her current role, she is committed to supporting evidence-based decision-making and contributing to innovative and thoughtful curricular design.

In her role as a Curriculum Specialist at Toronto Metropolitan University, Yvonne Simpson is dedicated to fostering excellence in curriculum through transformational practices, which reflect the diversity of experiences in teaching and learning. Prior to TMU, she held cross functional roles in postsecondary education, including teaching in interdisciplinary areas of disability and equity studies as well as serving as a subject matter expert in developing and designing a new undergraduate program at York University. In addition to bringing years of experience from leadership roles in postsecondary education, private sector and public service agencies, she holds a BA (York University), M.Ed.(University of Calgary), and PhD (York University) in Critical Disability studies.
