Entrance Scholarships

Ryerson is pleased to recognize the academic achievements of incoming first-year students with more than $2 million designated for scholarship support.

As an incoming student, you will be automatically considered for many of our scholarships based on your admission average, however, you can also apply for additional scholarships. We've listed a few for you below, but be sure to check out the full list of scholarships maintained by Student Financial Assistance.

Charles A. Root Scholarship
up to $2,000

This award is open to first-year, full-time students within the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science. Applicants must have attained a minimum 85% average in the final year of high school, be Ontario residents and demonstrate financial need. Applications are required.

Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Entrance Awards
up to $1,000

These awards are open to students entering our engineering programs who are well-rounded and exhibit characteristics of leadership through their involvement in professional affairs and/or extracurricular activities related to the engineering profession. The Dean selects one male and one female engineering student based on the above criteria. Applications are required.

Pierre Lassonde Entrance Awards in Engineering

These awards are open to students entering an engineering program with a minimum 85% overall average in the final year of high school. Applicants must be Ontario residents and must demonstrate financial need. Applications are required.

FIRST Engineering Scholarship

This award is open to high school students who have accepted an offer to a Ryerson engineering program, who have a minimum admission average of 85% and who have demonstrated rich involvement in a FIRST robotics high school team. Applications are required.

The Esch Awards provide funds to students with the purpose of enabling new, innovative ideas for products, inventions and technologies:

  • Stage 1: Interaction ($5,000) - this stage is for you if you have an idea, but need to develop a business plan or determine potential market demand.
  • Stage 2: Development ($8,000) - if you need time and funds to develop a business plan and prototype, apply for a stage 2 award.
  • Stage 3: Market Readiness (up to $25,000) - if your idea is at the pre-commercialization stage, but you need funds to take the final step, this is the stage for you.
