Academic Plan 2025-2030

Academic Plan 2025-30

TMU is currently developing its next academic plan for 2025-30. Building on the successes and foundation of the 2020-25 Academic Plan, we will continue to deliver innovative, career-oriented education that disrupts the status quo on local, national and international stages.

Sustaining the momentum that has brought us this far, we must continue to take the kind of calculated risks that allow us to confront Canada’s most pressing challenges with our scholarly, research and creative (SRC) activities. Similarly, we will embrace new approaches to experiential education and continue providing exceptional student experiences. Throughout, we must remain true to our values and to how we engage with the world.

Message from the Provost and Vice-President, Academic

October 26, 2023

The planning process for our 2025-30 academic plan is officially underway. The 2020-25 academic plan articulated our commitment to TMU’s evolution and set the stage for extraordinary transformation. Since it was released, the university has launched the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, founded the Black Scholarship Institute, pivoted to virtual classroom delivery throughout a lengthy and challenging pandemic, started the accreditation process for our new school of medicine and of course, changed our name.

Throughout each milestone, I have been consistently inspired by the way our community comes together to fulfill our goals on the issues that matter. The greatest strength of our institution is our ability to collaborate. Together, we disrupt patterns, work through challenges and achieve the learning and innovation that comes only from gaining an appreciation of different perspectives.

We have a truly people-centred culture that thrives on our values of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. I invite each and every one of you – students, faculty, contract lecturers, librarians and staff – to attend a town hall or consultation for your faculty, department or community group.

Over the next 18 months, we are going to take this collaboration even further, to build consensus on the objectives for our next academic plan. Our work will enhance and enrich our learning and teaching, and grow our reputation. This is a critical undertaking that I look forward to working with all of you on.

Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano, PhD
Provost and Vice-President, Academic

Principles to Guide the Academic Plan

In line with TMU’s mission, vision and values, the development of the academic plan will be guided by the following principles:

  • Prioritize students
  • Protect TMU’s core business
  • Be fair and transparent
  • Remain forward-looking

What to Expect

Whether you provide input through the feedback form (external link) , attend a consultation session or send an email (opens in new window)  to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, we genuinely appreciate your participation and sharing your perspective.

Phase 1 of the process includes initial consultations and conversations with stakeholders from across the university to assess the values and priorities of the current academic plan, evaluate what worked, and what to improve.

Phase 2 includes another series of consultations and town halls. This phase will focus on identifying strategies, actions and resources that will be needed to implement the academic plan.

Consultation Activities

To build consensus on the objectives of the academic plan, a series of engagement activities are taking place, including large and small group consultations, both virtually and in-person to ensure accessibility for all community members. These engagement activities are an opportunity to reflect on how to advance our academic plan to respond to the needs of our current and future environment.

Some sessions are open to all members of the TMU community, some sessions are focused on receiving feedback from departments and specific stakeholder groups.

We have established multiple channels to make it convenient for you to contribute to the Academic Plan. In addition to the consultation sessions, we also have a feedback form (external link)  for you to share your comments.
